Super A Electrical Question

Sorry for this basic question...

Just got a 53 Super A. First Farmall for me, and first, what I assume to be, 6v + ground system.

The tractor did not come with a battery. Just one real raggedy battery cable hanging off the starter. The regulator sitting under the generator says "6V Positive Ground"... So, I'm going to assume that it's 6v positive ground system. The tractor does run, but the guy I bought from hooked up a jump box to it with the positive hooked to the starter and the negative to the frame.

I am very much considering keeping this a stock 6v + ground system vs conversion to 12v.

Anyway, my question is this: Where is the "preferred" spot to connect the ground to the chassis? If you would happen to have a pic, that would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

Easy answer. Running a cable to the starter mount bolt is best (lowest loss of starting power) but any good shiny metal bolt on the chassis will do, 3/8 bolt preferred. cables should be Ogauge. Jim

The original ground location was one of the bolts at the back of the battery box, into the instrument panel. That depended on good ground connections through the panel. An alternative is to connect the cable to one of the bolts at the bottom of the panel. Those bolts go straight into the same part that the starter bolts to. So it is a pretty good connection. Installed, it is out of sight and out of the weather. A flat braided cable is pretty easy to fit. Try to get one without much extra unneeded length so it stays away from the lugs on the switches.
