Super C stuck clutch

I went to move the Super C out of the shop this morning and the clutch was stuck. I remember reading about how to fix it here. The main one was to put it in gear and rock it back and forth. I don't remember anyone saying to have the clutch depressed. I ran a ratchet strap from the front tires to the pedal to hold in the depressed position. One big rock and it popped loose. Anyway, my question is what causes this? There seem to be a lot of posts on here with that being a problem. I was just curious.

Rick, moisture usually. I had a C that set out but under cover and it did what you are facing. I eventually just blocked the pedal down when it was not used regularly. I also had a T6 crawler and would tie the steer levers back when it set through the winter. No problem after that.

Yup, moisture causing rust. Doesn't take much. Has something to do with the environment and the way the tractor is stored. I've personally never seen it in my area. It may be more prevalent in humid environments or where the tractors are stored in climate-controlled storage.
