TD14 engine swap Farmall 560

So I heard a rumor the bellhousing is the same between the TD14 460 diesel and the Farmall 560 288D I believe is what it is. Does anyone know if this is accurate? If so it seems to have the same power output on a newer platform. From what I can tell the size is rough the same as well.

If it did fit my guess would be the crawler gearing would not agree with the rated RPM of 1350 of the 460 vs the 1800 of the 560D tractor engine which is a D-282. Of course it is a possibility that if you never operated the 14 with its original engine which likely has a fair bit more “lugging power” the disappointment in perceived power may be less.

the rumor is wrong. u can swap engines between the 460 and 560 . the 460 has a shorter stroke but the same appearance. the td14 has the 460 cid engine that the old WD40 mccormicks had and is a way bigger animal.

Good to know about the 460/560. When I saw it I wasn't sure what to think and what you are saying is what made most sense. I had heard that and read that about the WD40 as well. By bigger animal do you mean it's a bigger design of the original 460 or the whole tractor is bigger?

I wasn't really thinking about that but I can see the 460 throwing around its weight a bit better yes. Makes sense on the lugging.

The 460 cid engine is twice as the 282 side by side. Even the td18 engine is the same engine as the 14 with 2 extra cylinders as it’s a 6 cyl. There is no resemblance between the 2. The 14 is old school from 50’s technology.

Yeah that was clear to me. The person describing it said they had the same bell housing. Which I could see for the time being a normal thing but at the same time a bit of a reach. If I felt like modifying the entire machine I would just look for an engine from a 15 or up. Guess I'll just keep looking for some alternative.

The bell housings are not even the same from the Farmall 460 tractor to the Farmall 560. The 460 has the smaller Farmall H bell housing pattern while the 560 has the larger Farmall M bell housing pattern. You need to swap the rear adapter plates to swap engines. The engine blocks are externally the same from the 460 to the 560, as rustred says, the difference is the shorter stroke of the C221 that is installed on the 460.
