There was talk about a transmission cooler

In the old days we towed everything with our cars. Those were bigger cars though. Have you seen the Lucille Ball movie The Long Long Trailer? If not you should, very funny movie.

A couple of years ago I happened upon "The Long Long Trailer" movie and watched a bit of it.
I discovered something I had not noticed before.
While they were traversing a particularly steep hill the trailer was being towed by a yellow Lincoln Capri convertible instead of the Merc.
It is a long distance shot and the average person would probably never notice.
Being a bit of a Mercury buff, I picked up on it right away.
I would guess that lil' 255 C.I.D. flathead might not have been quite up to the task on steep hills.
If you happen to watch the movie, look for the Lincoln.

Transmission cooler - I may be wrong - it was a long time ago, but I think that the '56 Mercury that I owned had an air scoop off to the side of the automatic transmission.
A lot of the early automatics were air cooled. Most had vented converter housing and/or fins on the converter to move air through the housing..

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but to the best of my knowledge every automatic transmission I've ever seen has had some sort of cooler, most were internal in the radiator, perhaps an external cooler was now a less expensive to manufacture, I don't know.
I think the OP comment was his caddy seemed to have both, inside the radiator and an external in front of the radiator/AC condenser.

I've noticed those types of vehicles general are hauling their lawn mowers around on an equally small trailer or sometimes tripping with their mattress on wheels. Not always but generally speaking.
I guess the part of it that surprised me was how different people can be from one country to another. In America we'd go out and spend a hundred grand for a diesel dually to haul our jon boat to the crick.

Loved the part with the all the rocks under the bed. Not just rocks, but boulders....
