Tire Chains

Anyone out there have any 13.6 X 28 chains for my Jubilee.
Previous owner had my hat box rims widened and did a good job.

These exact chains came up on a used farm equipment list in my neck of the woods, after I bought my tractor and was shopping for attachments.
Not knowing they would be so scarce used, and that I couldn't plow snow without them, I passed on the deal and soon regretted it.
They are available new but for an arm and a leg.

Made a similar mistake passing on some half tracks that I could have turned into single tire tracks.

Thanks,
Terry

Where are you located? This is a pretty bad time of year to be buying chains. In the summer you can often pickup sets at auctions for $50 or less. In the winter they'll cost you nearly 10X that much. I wouldn't get too fussed about trying to find chains exactly sized for the 13.6 X 28 - usually you can tweak similar size to make them work just fine. 14.9-28 and 16.9-30 are much more common sizes, and those sized chains could probably be shortened up to work on yours just fine. You'll want a boat-load of short bungee cords or one of those tire 'spiders' holding the edges together too. I even have a set of 18.4-30 chains I use on the 11-36 tires of an old Fordson; I had to shorten them up a little, but they work just fine.

I have a set for sale in central Iowa.
Hi Lynn,

I guess the freight would be an arm and a leg cause I'm on Salt spring Island. (?)
It's the largest in the West coast group of islands called, The Gulf islands (20 miles long)
out from Vancouver, B.C.
It's like a sister group to the group across the border called, The san Juan Islands.

Thanks for letting me know,
Terry

Daniel,
I accidentally deleted my response cause it looked like it was to be included in my reply to Lynn so here's take 2.

You're in Haliburton! I was born in Kirkland Lake and after Sault Ste Marie and two winters in Toronto, I moved out west for good.

Thanks for the good advice; hadn't crossed my feeble mind to pick up any available chains that I could modify.
Left it late for sure but so far it is just raining and no snow. People say it's milder because of global schmobal warming, but everyone on this island knows that last summer and the summer before we were still going down to 50 day after day and we didn't actually get summer until the middle of bloody July! I swim a lot so it keeps one aware of that. Summer is when it's so hot that you just have to go swimming if you have that option and we sure do around here.
It's midnight, exactly 50 F and raining heavily.

Lynn,

I was looking to find an estimated freight costs based on 154 pounds
but in using the online calculators I see i need to enter a Zip Code or Town.

Thanks,
T
This would be a good time to use the site's conversation feature. You fellows can discuss your dealings there without everyone looking at the forum seeing the info (email, phone, zip codes, etc.) you might need to swap.

Done! Tall T, let me know if I did it right!
