Recently developed a knock/tap in the transmission of our MF 175 Diesel MP. It started after going forward a feet running a JD 560 brushhog over a little bit of burdock (I had previously been brush hogging earlier without issue). The knock will get louder/quieter with the hydraulics pressure changes and shifting in and out of MP. I could see pulsing/movement in the hydraulic levers. Knock frequency will increase with engine RPM.
Multi-power still works, PTO works (turned the baler fine), and hydraulic lift arms work (haven't tested the remotes).
Any thoughts? I know MF pumps can get noisy (playing with draft control/3pt high doesn't change the loudness of the noise). The knock is distinctly around the pedal/battery area, not the seat were the pumps are located. Could it be possible hydraulic pump pressures could cause the MP to knock or the lines (MP does have a cooler line that runs through the front the trans/bell housing area)? If I am not mistaken, MP and independent PTO have their own pump that sits on top of the main 3pt / hydraulic pump.
My plan of action is to drain the trans/hydraulic fluid to check the pump ears. Then possibly start splitting the cases to see if I find anything.
The only good out of this whole ordeal is I picked up a JD 630 on a panic buy to make sure I had something to do 2nd cut hay.
I appreciate the advice and any help!
Thanks!
