U speeds old v newer

Documentation of the high-speed Us does not seem to be readily available. We have had several of them on our farm over the years. They were geared to do around 30 mph at the rated engine rpm.

As a kid, I’d drive them on a good road at peak speed. Not sure I’d do it today.

I did get pulled over by a state trooper driving one when I was a young teen. Trooper said I needed a SMV sign. I told him I was going faster than the 20-25 mph and it was not required. He let me go.

didn't the udlx rev higher tho? hence higher capable speeds
Udlx had extra shifter that released main gear set and threw governor open. Not different motor or transmission. Motor had heavier rear main for the foot clutch.

Depends on tires and rpm. Specs right from original books and shop manuals.

my 2.3.5 pattern 41 and 43 uts will do 27 28 mph
My neighbor had a U. With a steel steering wheel and just one head. It would go 35 or so in high gear. I never drove it. But did follow him to get it worked on and took him home. Remember he said it was a Cal-Pack. Tractor. From central Illinois. They raised veggies. I went to this farm to look at a M5 that was for sale. It had Two Torques, ( there was about 10" added to the torque tube). It was a LP gas and pretty rough. I though at the time it would go slower, but maybe it was geared to go faster. Wish had drove it.

I believe the double torques were geared for slower speeds.

Possibly M5 Del Monte tractor. UDLX max was 38 with 32" tires.
