WD-45 Engine serial number

So I stopped to look at a WD-45 and couldn't find the serial number for the tractor but found what appeared to be one stamped on the engine behind the carburetor. When i looked it up it didn't match anything listed for it. Is what's on the engine more of a code than a serial number? The stamping appeared to read 45-6521-G.

If it was stamped, thats the engine serial number.

The 45 refers to it being a 45 engine, no right side panel, 4.5" stroke. The G refers to it being a gas engine as opposed to one with lower compression for "tractor fuel". By this time though it could have been "worked on" and what's inside can't be known for sure.

Thank you!

An "Official engine serial number chart "? Nope. I just know they made about 15,000 WD-45's in the last 6 months of 1953 and your engine is no where near the 15,000 mark. They start at s/n1001.

That is only a GUESS chart. I have proven it to be wrong on a couple of occasions by having a tractor in my hands that the engine s/n versus chassis s/n didn't match his chart and I knew the engine was original in mine.

The serial # will start with WD even if it's a WD45. Might half to scratch a while or use some chalk or pencil lead to read it.

It just occurred to me that you might not know very much about Allis Chalmers tractors. Do you know how to tell a WD from a WD45 or from a WC for that matter? They look similar. If not, let us know and we'll be happy to explain the differences.
