There are several shades of MM prairie gold and it is a much debated topic.they are the same color as the U's. prairie gold. i didnt hear of 2 shades of it ?
This is what I have from years ago.Would a 1948 Z be prarie gold 1 (more pale yellow) or the more orange prairie gold 2?
Right. That is why I was asking here. I know late 1930s and into WWII years, was more that pale yellow PG, then it seems early 1950s was PG2 and more orange, so I wasn't so sure for 1948. There is a good amount of paint preserved below the hood and it's Caterpillar yellow, but I'm pretty sure this Z was repainted all over at some point in its working life because the grill was yellow when I got it, not red. There are several shades of MM prairie gold and it is a much debated topic.
This chart is amazing.. Thank you! This is what I have from years ago.
In this case, being factory correct actually worked in my favor. I had always preferred PG1 where it’s more of a pale yellow, over the more orange leaning PG2.It's your tractor. I'd say paint it whatever color you're comfortable with. It's unlikely that the correct police are going to show up and threaten to take away your birthday or anything! And even if they do, just tell them where to put it!
Me to!In this case, being factory correct actually worked in my favor. I had always preferred PG1 where it’s more of a pale yellow, over the more orange leaning PG2.
My tractor has all the mounts for cultivators. I plan to eventually get original cultivators back on it, since the tractor came from cotton country. When it's time to paint, I'm guessing the mounts will be cherry red like the wheels/grill?Me to!
Some cultivator parts were red some yellow I believe. Your very lucky to have the set for it!My tractor has all the mounts for cultivators. I hope to buy cultivators for mine, but it will probably be about the last step in the process. It's really cool you have your dad's tractor!Dad bought a new Z w/ a 4row cultivator in 1948.The tractor is PG2. The cultivator and all mounts that are bolted to the tractor are cherry red. Including the rock shaft, lift springs, and power lift. The cultivator gauge wheels on cultivator are PG2 with air tires. I might have a complete Z 4row cultivator for $250. But do not have Power Lift or Rock Shaft.
Thanks! It really endeared the tractor to me, even more. I need to eventually post some pictures of all the cultivator parts and let the more knowledge MM guys here tell me what I might be missing so that I can eventually put cultivators on it.Some cultivator parts were red some yellow I believe. Your very lucky to have the set for it!
I believe you know more about MM than me! And $250 for them I would call reasonable.Dad bought a new Z w/ a 4row cultivator in 1948.The tractor is PG2. That’s a great deal. I’m just too far away from you. I hope you can find someone who needs them!I hate to intrude on someone’s post, but I have a 2 row "extra heavy" and a 2 row regular with a rear section that I would give you if you can pick them up soon. Extreme NE Illinois, would make a great 4 row, they're headed to the scrapyard
I have some parts for the MM cultivators if and when you get to that. Where are you from? I'm in SW MN.That’s a great deal. I’m just too far away from you. I hope you can find someone who needs them!
