For ear corn, to shell kernels off the cob. Mounts on a table edge or whatever. Feed in ear corn and turn the crank.

Grandpa had an average of 12 grandkids running around on his farm on any given Sunday. A few times he would take 10-12 bushel of corn and have a little contest to see which one of us could shell a bushel the fastest with a corn sheller.. We would all get a piece of homemade hard maple or caramel candy for our efforts..

Ours was in a wooden box and had a flywheel. still hand cranked! Not good for anything beyond 30 chickens. Jim
Just like Jim's, mine was on a stand and inside a wooden box. But I'll have to disagree with the 30 chickens limit.

I had way more energy than money as a kid, so would glean nearby cornfields for missed cobs after they were picked dragging a gunny sack down the rows. Every night after supper I sat in the basement next to that sheller feeding it cob after cob. I sold my bushels of shelled corn to the local elevator, and looking at it years later, they gave me premium price for pretty high-moisture corn. I don't remember how many bushels I sold to them, but then my siblings got into it and we were filling a small corncrib with gleaned corn, and a neighbor came by to shell it for us. What a wonderful place to have grown up. steve

We had no monetary incentive, and 30 chickens. Jim

Just picked one up today. Will give it to my brother for his bird/squirrel feeding operation.
