What type of anvil do I have?

Just wanted to check in. Funny hardly any replies after I posted the pictures. I was thinking about the anvil today and wished I could find info.
Funny how everyone has one until they don't..
Can't help you on your quest for information. I would only guess that it's used for sheet or plate metal work.

When I hear Triangle anvil. This is what envision.. Cant mount one on a stump outside of a barn...

Ok… Not an anvil expert. Very interesting tool. But to me that looks more like a fixture to help with the formation of certain round items. Perhaps one could call it an anvil for a specific set of tasks.

Growing up in the 50's we had a rail-road track maybe 16" long that we used in the shop on our dairy farm.
Same, and my father still has that piece of railroad used as an anvil. We also had a proper anvil that stayed in the barn, but the piece of railroad was portable and stayed in the truck.

I would be hesitant to call it an anvil as it essentially has no usable table. I would tend to think it is a specialized version of a forming cone.

Has anyone ever seen a 3 pointed Anvil? I have one and have had it for years. It came out of US Steel Works and was going to be scrapped so I brought it home. It is huge and years ago we mounted it to an outdoor steel worktable so you could swivel it around. Never have used it.

It is 3 pointed in the shape of a "T" horizontally and each point is a different size and length. The points are also shaped as a "half circle" with the flat side on the bottom.

We have talked about it to everyone for years and have never seen or heard of one like it. I will try to get some pictures later if I remember.
I vote for giant sheet metal stake.

It reminds me of a “bench stake” of some kind. Pexto made a heavy cast plate with various square holes. Various “anvil like” stakes fit into those holes to provide a suitable surface for shaping metal.

Like tools.
Sheet metal "anvil" the same forms can be found for Pexto or Roper sheet metal forming. Steel mills have miles of specialized duct and hoods made from sheet metal. To me it is not a mystery at all. It may be a unique tool no longer needed, but check out the link! Jim
Beat me to it.

I'm no metal working aficionado, but, if what's pictured is a form of "anvil"... or used as such... it would be great for pounding curves into sheet metal or making rings out of flat stock...

The pack rat in me would mount that somewhere, thinking that I'll use it to get a dent out of something... someday...
