Where is the correct place to attach ground battery cable on JD 730?

My 730 does not have the original battery cable and just has a generic short cable that was bolted to a hole drilled in the battery box and a nut and bolt on it. I want to replace this with the correct cable and ground it at the correct spot on the frame. Does anyone know where the cable is supposed to go?

The original was a web ground strap. It was bolted to the seat rail bolt hole, either left or right side. Factory was two six volt battarys for twelve volts positive ground.

hmmm, well, the new painted battery box would not be making good ground contact that way, so I will probably adapt another solution. Right now, I put it on the bottom bolt that holds the battery box to the rockshaft housing top cover, and it's making good contact that way so far.

we have on a couple of occasions . Obtained a brass or bronze bolt to replace one of the four battery box hold down bolts. Then use a longer cable from the battery POS to reach the new bolt inside the battery box.

Yep, that's what I did, used a brass or bronze bolt (not sure the exact metallic makeup, but the bolt is that color).

All of mine are grounded to one of the battery box hold down bolts. Since I had the boxes off, I removed the paint from the top of the bolster for that corner, removed the paint where the battery box contacts the lift cover at that bolster, and removed the paint on the inside of the battery box around that bolthole. All bare metal got sprayed with Corrosion X then assembled. New long ground cables were made to connect to those bolts (regular steel bolts worked fine). All work great and crank good.

I also like to use a star lock washer for those connections.

As the battery box bottom tends to corrode and has poor continuity to the rest of the tractor, I usually ground to the casting below it. Not original, but more reliable.
Yes, I did notice this when I had the battery box off... new box installed and paint on it would not allow for good grounding contact, so I put it on one of the bolts that holds it to the rockshaft housing lid.
