White pto clutch disc question

I am in the process of rebuilding a 2-105 pto and discovered I need to replace 4 of the 6 clutch friction discs. They are wore out in the inside 1/2 circle of each disc. Not sure what caused this, but since I needed to replace them, I pulled the clutch pack form another unit. The friction discs looked different in terms of the lines going through them. The 2 good discs I have had the lines criss-crossing though out the friction material. The ones in the other pack had lines going one way for two quarters of the material and lines going the other way on the remaining two quarters. Did some research and found these were aftermarket discs. So my question is, can I mix and match or should I only use the full six from the second unit? Is there any difference between the OEM and the after market discs? Any ideas on how the first one got wore would also be helpful. One note, the hydraulic cylinders on this pto did not have quad rings installed. It used the regular orings. I suspect it was rebuilt by someone who had the earlier orings. I thought all Whites used the quad rings.

Heat most likely warped the pto clutches most likely from slippage. Make sure the metal separators are flat. I'd patch a set together if they are in good condition with lines that are visible. I'm thinking there was a combination of quad rings and o rings used in the brake and piston, but it's been awhile.

We just rebuilt one and I bought all new frictions given they were cheap enough not to mix/match, and the steels weren't warped. I would recommend doing the same, and getting new separators if they're warped. I don't know about differences between OEM vs. aftermarket. However the Orings (quad and regular) are all available through the O-ring store. I can get you the numbers if you need them. I too believe all the Whites were updated to the quad rings from the factory, but maybe it happened after 1976-1977, I don't recall. The PTO brake was still available and I got it through Ag part first. Thinking about it, how does the drum look? Is it overheated and cracked? Those cracks can be really subtle and hard to see, but the discoloration is a tell-tale sign.

Put all the steel spacer plates in a stack and you can see a few are warped. Interesting to see becuase the warped ones are not obvious eye. Looking at the clutch disks from the second unit I found ones with damaged spots. Ordering new ones in the morning. The drum looks good.

thanks
