Winter Boots

I have been wearing MUCK brand "wetland" rubber boots for years. They are comfortable, good foot support, warm. I can walk the dog 2-5 miles everyday through the woods, fields and creek. First pair I had lasted 6 years, second pair 3. The newest pair I have had less than 1 year and the sole is falling off. Same problem with the first two paris, just happened faster. This trend is not looking good. Boots are not cheap. I don't mind spending $160.00 or more for a good pair of boots, but they should not fall apart in less than a year.

I contacted them about warranty replacement. I got a response the next day,
"Thank you for reaching out to Rocky Brands, Inc. We know it is important to get immediate help. One of our support team members will be in touch with you shortly. Customer Care | Rocky Brands Inc"

I am now looking for a good alternative brand.

It sounds like mine. I owned one pair of Rocky's.
I liked them just fine, but after a year or two, just like yours, the soles came off.

After being diagnosed with Reynaud's syndrome I needed to keep my feet warm when outdoors and on the concrete floor in my shop or chance loosing my feet.. At the shoe store they offered me Keen insulated hiking boots. They have 200 gram insulation, and are water proof. I have had them for a year and I am extremely happy with them. In warmer weather I wear a more conventional pair of boots, but when walking in wet grass in the early morning I have been wearing these and they keep my feet warm. My feet recovered from the effects of the circulation problem so that I was able to have a corrective surgery.

Tractor Supply used to stock a Muck boot knock-off "Itasca" about this time of year. Usually I'd wait until February and pick up a pair when they were 20% off. Unfortunately they haven't stocked them in the past couple of years.

Cost about $69.99 and if they lasted more than a year, no big deal.

Mine are made by "The Muck Boot Co." They claim to be the "original Muck boot", until now I didn't know of more? I think I'm going on 6 years with the first pair (and still very good) in the cold Canadian north. I'm very satisfied. The cost was somewhere between one and two hundred dollars, which is a stretch for my kind of thinking :) Had they only lasted one or two years I would not have repeated my purchase.

Permanently warm boots are Military Packs. (Mickey Mouse boots. I have had 3 pair in 45 years and wear them anytime the temp is 20degrees or lower (often here in MN). they do not allow moisture to get to the insulation. This makes their 3/8 to 3/4 inch thick felt warm as toast. Even if you step in water over the top and get your feet/socks soaked, you will warm up in minutes. Wet but warm. All other felt lined boots are OK until either perspiration or stepped in water affect the lining. They then compress the lining "sole" conducting in more cold. If worn for 3 or 4 hours. the conventional boots are OK. Mickeys only cost 70 to 80USD. Jim

Almost any boot I wear is warm enough if I am on my feet moving, I have yet to find one that will keep my feet warm sitting in my deer blind for 4 hours without foot warmers. FYI: My feet would stay warm on a snowmobile for however long I rode (8/12hrs) in my hunting boots without foot warmers (and I rode in -20/-30 degrees many times). The exertion required to ride produced enough body heat.

Going into the third winter with a pair of Dry Shods. I did have to apply a little shoe goo this fall.

White Arctic Bunny Boots will do that easily. I wear the black ones with no issues. The white ones are warmer!! Jim

I don't think any 'chore' boot will stand up to everyday use. You're not the first person here to complain about the short life of their Muck brand boots; you'd expect with their premium price they should outlast cheaper boots but apparently they don't. Last winter I picked up a pair of TSC's store brand 'Ridgecut' boots and they're pretty nice. Maybe not as nice as Muck Boots, but they're only about half the price.

Just want to add, I used to like muck boots but the last two pairs only
lasted a year each. Nope not for that price, might as well buy cheap and plan on changing them often:(

The guy who started Muck sold out to Honeywell and quality went to crap. He started a new boot company called Dry Shod. Try a pair of those.

I have a pair of dry shods the guy who started muckboot sold and started dry shod and the quality seems like a lot better

If you want to keep your feet your feet warm, try battery operated heated insoles. They come with adjustable heat settings, some with a remote control. I get around 8 hours on medium setting and they've kept my feet warm in a deer stand in sub zero temps.

I tried a pair of Muck boots a few years ago. IMO Muck boots have reduced their quality in recent years and are not worth their premium price. Only lasted a few months before the seams and sole detached. I will not buy another pair of Muck boots. Mine were labeled; made in china.

I will continue to use Schnees out of Montana. I have 2 pair, one for the barn and one for other cleaner events. The barn pair I have had for 30 years and they have been rebuilt by Schnee one time so far. The other pair is 20 years old and still in good shape. I highly recommend them.

800 gram knee highs I got at Bass Pro. Love them for winter trapping. I think it was their house brand. In my experience - the hunting store folks are more in tune with how to keep your appendages warm.
