Wiring international 684

Hello I have just bought a international 684 and the lights, wiper, fuel gauge, temp sensor and indicator don’t work on closer inspection I found a load of wires not plugged into anything under the dash but there is know where obvious.

Please check the loads for each wire fore shorts to ground before plugging them in. Could be harnesses have extra for other somethings .

When I take a live wire straight off the battery and connect it to the live feed on a light the light turns on if I connect it to wiper motor it turns on which tells me the wire is grounded

Most likely extras unless the components for A/C heater or cab lights are missing /not on the tractor.
guessing there is a cab since wipers are mentioned.

When I push the light switch it comes on when pressed but nothing happens when you turn the knob
Sorry not familiar with those tractors “It comes on when I push it” “It” is what? If something like a switch works properly when it’s knob or lever has pressure against it that is generally a sign of a bad switch. Please remember you are there looking at it, we only see what you type and whatever you describe in a photo.
Is there a more in depth wiring diagram?
This is a gift horse thing, best I can do for you for free. I think it is a copy of the one in the IH manual. A lot of things can be monkyied with over 40 years.

Suggest purchasing an operation manual with the service and parts Manuals . If you see one at swap meet at tractor show or the copied ones offered on eBay. YT sells manuals also checked it out in parts in the page header.
It really help Find out more . I didn’t see anything in articles to help on this subject.

Hello welcome to YT, I assume you are in the UK or Europe from the castle in the background of the 684 photo.
I am very familiar with the IH 684, Doncaster, UK built tractor but only the open station versions and I cannot find an electrical diagram for a 684 with a cab. One of my service manuals has one paragraph on how to remove the cab and it indicates that there are two electrical connectors to disconnect to remove the cab, one from behind the dash and the other from behind the seat that connects fuel gauge wires. So I would assume the wires that you show in your photo are the ones for the front of the cab? Are the ones in your photo coming from the cab or are they coming from under the dash? Today I went over and visited a neighbor that had a 684 with a cab on it from about 1980 thru to about 1995 when he traded for a CIH 4230 4WD with cab. I question him and his son about the 684 cab and they never had to work on it but they did remember that the controls/switches for Fan, Wipers, Heat were all up in the headliner. In Canada the 84 Series with cabs were rare in our area, the neighbor wanted one as he has bad allergies and the cab air filter helps.
On Ebay someone is selling a 684 electrical book for US $146.66 plus shipping. It only says Electrical Schematics 684, no mention of IH 684.

From the small part of the page that is shown on Ebay there appears to be a cab power relay somewhere.

Good luck

The wires are under the dash
I am from uk

Those could go to most anything. From a dash bulb to an ether start aid controller or even to a sender or light on the side of the hood. I would expect wires for a cab removal or connection to be somewhat of a block like several wires into one plug unit like on the fire wall of a car.

I think, I have decoded some of the wires you show in your photo using the wiring diagram linked by @used red MN.
Wire #1 - at top of photo Possibly Light Green(LG) with Stripe colour ?, is this a double wire with a double connector on it?
Wire #2 - Green(G) with White(W) Stripe code GW - starts a pin 5 of the Rear 7 Pin connector #40, goes to pin 4 of the Flasher unit #39 then to a connector for a Green(G) wire to #12 Right Flasher Light.
Wire #3 - Pink(K) - could not find any Pink code K wires on the diagram.
Wire #4 - Green(G) with Red(R) stripe code GR - starts at pin 3 of the Rear 7 Pin Connector #40, goes to pin 3 of the Flasher unit #39 then to a connector to a Green(G) wire to #10 Left Flasher light.
Wire #5 - Appears to be solid Green(G) code G - comes from Fuse #3 of Fuse Box #22 (+12V) that then joins a Green wire that goes to pin B1 of Light switch #21 then connects to pin 2 of Flasher unit #39 then to Cigar Lighter #11.

Now my brother has a 684 about same vintage as your 684 but it is a Canadian spec model meaning there is no horn or Cigar Lighter and it has no Flasher Unit and no 7 Pin Connector for a trailer light on top of the 3Pt housing by the Hydraulic Oil filler plug. He also has a newer CIH 495 that has a Flasher Unit built into the Light Switch and has a 7 Pin Connector for a trailer light on top of 3Pt housing.
On my brother's 684, it has one major wiring harness that start under the dash, under the battery box forward along left side of engine, a couple wires come out of the harness to connect to the alternator, the harness splits at the left front of engine, one branch goes to feed the head lights, the other branch continues around up front of engine, one wire branches to air filter sensor, another wire to engine temp sender and final wire to the engine oil pressure sender switch. The other wire on the left side is from Ignition switch, Start Term wire to Neutral Safety Switch at top of Clutch Foot Pedal then to the S term on the Starter Solenoid. The other major wire harness starts under the dash goes under the transmission step over cover and under the deck plate that the seat is mounted on and then splits and goes to each fender and some have a connector plug under that deck plate that the fender lights and fuel gauge can be disconnected from the main harness.
Re Fuel Gauge, at this age of Doncaster tractor the fuel gauge rarely works or is very inaccurate, you can check the wiring under the metal cap on the top right hand side of the fuel tank. if I recall correctly there should be two wires, one will measure Battery Voltage when disconnected, this is the Sense Line and Ground(Earth) wire. The Earth wire goes to a hold down stud for the deck plate on the back right corner behind the seat although this may be different on a cab model.
