Worst Car You have Ever Owned?

84 Ford Taurus - first year production. It was a 4 cylinder, 4 door, manual transmission car which wasn't real common and it was nothing but a problem. Fuel pump went at 18,000 miles. After two years all four doors were rusted through at the door handles only. At 98,000 miles had all kinds of transmission problems the dealer couldn't figure out - had to have a Ford rep find the problem. Had a ton of other problems every few thousand miles and it 135,000 miles one day driving it to work something snapped in the front end, couldn't hardly steer it to get home and I said I had enough. I had to junk it.
How did you manage to get a car from 2 years into the future? The Taurus was introduced in September of 1985 for the 1986 model year. It was a totally new car at that time, and I don't think it even had a manual transmission option.

had 3. 2001 Buick LeSabre, what a POS, 1993 Toyota 4-runner, 1992 ford tempo. Lemons ... all 3.

best 3, 1993 olds 88, 1992 olds cutlass supreme, 2006 nissan titan.

2007 Chevy 2500. Anti-lock brakes never worked right. Trans. went south and it rusted so bad the under carriage looked like something that’s been sitting on the bottom of the ocean for centuries. I have never owned anything that rusted out so quickly.
Funny, I had a 4x4 2500hD with a Duramax and considerate it one of the best vehicles I ever owned. Besides consumables the only thing fixed was the mass air flow sensor in over 100K miles. Sorry I traded it in.

Ya know, I don't think I've ever had a vehicle I thought was bad...AT THE TIME. Sure, in retrospect some were pretty bad. But they all got me where I needed to go and, frankly, I didn't know any better. Had I known that someday I would own a vehicle that I could drive for 100K with almost no maintenance I might have thought differently. Ignorance is bliss.

2015 Ford Focus, Transmission mount broke into 3 parts trying to pull out of a gravel driveway. It was missing 1 of the 4 bolts that held it in place from the factory and Ford would not stand behind it! Note the photos, Original mount and the revised version from Ford. They knew that it was not designed strong enough. 2014 Ford Fusion, 75,000 miles and the tranny was toast. I had it serviced every 35,000 miles too.... Needless to say I don't buy Ford any longer.

Mine was a gas 6.0 and was also a 4x4. There were a bunch of other problems like the exhaust manifold bolts shearing off, spare tire lowering mechanism not working ( had to torch it to get to tire), knock sensors under the intake that disintegrated and a random misfire code that no one could fix. This was a major pain because we had emissions test every two years. To top it off, 9 mpg on a good day. Luckily it had the big gas tank.

My little half ton from 2005 is still going 218,000. If he had the new 2007 he probably had the first generation with the new transmission I can’t remember if that’s 2008 or 2007 but we had one at work that just sounded horrible the shifts wouldn’t work right if you were pulling something heavy. It never blew up but there were people who were scared to drive it therefore it was more or less mine. And they rusted out horribly that age the rest of the world had begun to discover undercoating for the frame as well which you had to do yourself on a GM

Hands down 2010 jeep patriot with a cvt. You could only drive it 100 miles in the winter it would overheat and slowly stop moving above 70 degrees. Nobody would work on it except the dealer and they wanted to troubleshoot it again in the winter when it was actually working and I have time to deal with it. I said bolt a transmission on or sell one to me. We can’t get one for 4 months…
That was the end of that.

I had a 64 Rambler that did that. It was a bad diaphragm in the fuel pump.
Had that happen on a '61 Chevy half ton pickup.

Since I haven't seen one listed yet my worst/best car was a '73 Chevy Vega sedan with 2bbl carb and 3-speed manual transmission. I had a clutch issue fixed under warranty and no further problems. The rocker panels rusted through at around 3 years. At around 70k the engine began using oil (1 qt per 500 miles) which I blamed on the aluminum liner less block. I found out later it might have been just valve seals. If I had known about that I might have given that repair a shot as I really liked it. It was a great driving comfortable little car.

Never really had very many cars. Does a pickup count? I bought a new 77 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 that was made out of tin cans and chewing gum as far as I could tell. Last Chevy I ever owned. Junk with a capital J!
I was looking for a PU around that time and went to a Chevy dealer. Had a 1/2 ton on the lot that I was viewing with the salesman. I was standing at the rear corner of the bed and decided to put one foot up on the rear bumper. The bed dipped but the cab didn't. I saw that as I was removing my foot I looked at the salesman and said OOPS. I abruptly left. I never had another Chevy until my current 2011 half ton Silverado. I bought a Chevy because I wanted a dealer close by at my older age, to do things if they needed to be done that I no longer did, and they were the closest. Only problem over the years with that was a rat chewed up the control wires to the alternator. Easy fix, both for the wires and eradication of the rodents......Tim Kat (Cat) brand rat poison.

Yellow 1972 Ford Pinto Station Wagon, "The Banana". Probably built on a Monday or Friday. Friends had Pintos and didn't have all the trouble we had.
I had a 1972 Pinto Station Wagon too. It had green metal flake paint with fake wood grain panels! Bucket seats, shag carpet and an 8-track cassette. There was always some problem with it. I remember it had a weird issue where the engine would shut off if you braked too hard. But, I got it free from a college girl I knew whose father had bought her a new car when she graduated. Her dad said, "just get rid of the Pinto anyway you can." So she gave it to me. Haha. She had been selling popcorn for a fund raiser and when I got the car there were corn kernels sprouting in the back seat carpet. It ran bad when I got it and I never did get it running quite right. I drove it for a year or so and then sold it to my neighbor for $50.

Loaded topic. They all made at least one. Ive had a t×rd from each mfr. 2001 Durango, 11mpg despite multiple trips to the dealer. 2004 "6.0 sick liter" diesel. Every time I backed it out of the garage it had a new problem. Rear main seal, trans leak, fuel issues. 84 scotsdale, 305 4v. Deadly flat spot on acceleration despite multiple times to the dealer. Like that until sold. 90 grand am, ok until everything rusted and fell off.

Taurus MT5, 4 cylinder 5 speed car. Manual transmission was also used in SHO models. It was not a sturdy
transmission.

We had a Taurus with the 4 cyl in the family. I can't recall if it was a 4 or 5 speed though. It was an SHO, pretty peppy 4 cylinder,

Guido.

1980 Pontiac Phoenix-Motor Trend Car of the Year. GM couldn't make manual transmission to last more than 15K- warranty for 12K. Took 3 transmissions, 5 water pumps, 2 recalls & 115k miles, sent the rust bucket, with falling headliner down the road. Next up 1989 Dodge Caravan. Four transmissions- 3 water pumps 112K parked it on Nissan dealers lot. Been driving a Nissan or Toyota every since 1996 and NO mechanical issues or complaints. since.
Never owned a really bad car or truck I bought a 1977 Ford f250 with a 460 that used oil from day 1 went back to dealer 3 to 4 times. Still used oil. At 15000 miles dealer installed new engine at no cost so no complants
