Drug home another U today and am having trouble on what year it is. Only number I get off the transmission plate is a 2 which is no help. It’s had a not so good repaint and they just sprayed over both SN plates. I got 0301817 off the engine plate but I’m not sure that’s all of them.
The only other thing different from my other U is it has disc brakes like you’d find on a UB and the left side has the live power take off setup. Don’t know if that’s enough to get a year identification or not but any help would be appreciated

Serial number from an early 1953 with 283-4A motor.. Would have dic brakes. Lpto(kinda) was an option. Later in 53 MM went to hood with smooth sides and pressurized cooling system. Would be first of the 12v U's. Is the 30th motor used in that year.

Thank you Rust and GB. I went ahead and got some pics. Got it as non running. Got spark now but when I turned on the gas it started running out the intake throat and the sediment bowl needs a gasket apparently. Should be able to build a fire in it this afternoon. Should add that it is a6 volt system

My Dad bought a late 1952 UTS new. Dealer told him it had a 53 UB engine in it (higher comp heads). It has shifter belt pulley, LPTO, disk brakes Shell fenders, and 6V. My guess is you have a late 52 the factory was using up befor the UB came out.

1952 had ribbed fenders. My 1952's have old type belt pulley drive.
