Hello All,
I bought a MF 2200 Forklift which ran alright but was having issues chewing up the distributor gears. I thought it might be the governor turns out someone stripped the threads on the cam. I pulled the head and since the cylinders looked bad I figured I would rebuild it. Not sure if the forklift was built this way or if someone got happy with a welder but the engine can't be pulled without lifting the steering axle over the radiator supports and since I didn't have a way to do that I'm doing an inframe rebuild. I've got new main bearings in the front two mains already but I can't get the rear main to come apart. I tried using a slide hammer to pull it out but no luck(using the oil pan bolt hole). Do you have to pry them out? I did take the two small bolts out of rear main and have the main bolts out as well. Been trying to remove as much packing as I can but that is very slow going and wanted to know if I am missing something. Helped my dad in several engine rebuilds but this is the first time tackling on my own. Never ran into this issue before. This machine has the instant reverse transmission in it if that makes a difference. I read through the manual but even though it says it is for the forklift it talks mainly about the tractor and doesn't discuss anything other than removing the bolts. Thanks for your help,
Matthew
PS. The previous owner was told the engine had been recently rebuilt. I don't know there was an inch of sludge in the bottom of the oil pan. The old rods and mains looked alright with some copper showing. Everything mic'ed out within tolerance, although the cam tunnel was close.
