Took my 530 for a spin about 3/4 mile then it just died. Cranked it and nothing. Checked distributor and all looked fine. Removed some wire covers I installed and left them off. Came back 20 minute later and it started and ran fine. Gas tank is full and its 93 degrees out side and sunny. What would cause it to just shut down then start later? Coil going bad? I'm going on a 200 mile tractor ride 6-14 thru 6-16 and want to be ready. Any suggestions welcome!!

When you looked at the distributor did you crank it to see if the points sparked? I'd put my money on the condenser.

I'll need a 2nd person to crank it while I check points for spark next time it quits. I'm going to install a new condenser just in case!

Try pulling coil wire out of distributor cap and it will usually have enough curl set in that you can get it to rest on its boot with metal tip near distributor body. You can sit in the seat and crouch down and see spark jump while cranking.

Consider taking spare points and condenser with you. It could be coil too, they don't like heat!

Have fun on your trip!!!

Why not tie a timing light on it somewhere you can see the flash and go for another ride?
