Replaced all the seals in my fuel pump, broke it down and wiped down all the parts with a shop towel and some WD-40 to get all the built-up diesel crud off. Re-assembled it, and it fails to pump. Disassembled it again, checking the metering valve and the plungers, both looked good. Although, the plungers were snugger than I felt they should be, there was no sign of build up or wear on them or the cylinder. I even checked the ports inside the driveshaft to ensure they were clear. Still didn't get anything, so I then soaked the parts in wd40 overnight. Still didn't get anything. Lastly, I checked the advance, and ensured that I had assembled it correctly, Still nothing.

Most recently, I left open the top cover, filled it with wd-40, and used an oversized clothes line pin to manually open up the govenor to see if I could get a response, while I ran around and turned the engine over. Got nothing.

I have gone through 2-3 manuals, both shop and owners, and even watched a video on the development of the CAV pump by lucas/perkins in order to discover the answer, and I am all out of ideas. Working on this pump has consumed a lot of time, and now I am way behind schedule. The guys at injectionpumps.co.uk have a really resourceful site, that has been a great aid in this project, but it still won't pump.

Any ideas? I got nothing.

The rotor plungers MUST be free, if not, pump will never work..

I learned years ago to send pumps out to have them repaired. A good pump technician with a test stand saves a lot of headaches.

I had a Cav Pump on a IH B414 several years ago. The tractor ran good but had no power (couldn't start out in 3rd or 4th gear) so i tore it apart at least three times trying to fix it. Nothing i did took care of it. I ended up sending it to Dieseltech and he worked his magic on it. That tractor ran like a raped ape after that. With that said i would send it to Dieseltech so he could work his magic on it.
