I have a 53 Ford C-600 COE with a Mercury OHV engine.
Data plate says 96 hp @3400 RPM
What engine is this and is it original.
Local guy told me the did this in 53 but haven't been able to confirm

Ford in 1953 did offer an Lincoln Y block OHV engine in 279 and 317 cu. in. in their big trucks. 700 thru 900.
I don't know if 600 had that option but I suspect not.
From your Data plate I suspect you originally had a flathead.
If your valve cover is attached with 2 nuts that would be Y Block .
Then a good description of how the oil filter is attached to engine.
Canister toward engine block or toward backside of flywheel.
Toward engine block would be Y block Ford and toward flywheel would be Lincoln Y block.
