My JCB Series 3 was running when suddebly the transmission stopped. Engine remained in idle and trans was unresponsive in forward or reverse. I suspected low voltage since this happened once when my alternator died. However, when I shut it down to look it over, my attempts to restart resulted in no turn over. I get the buzzer, dash lights, but when I move key to position 3 the starter is silent. Important considerations:
1. I did power wash the unit the day before
2. I'm getting full 12v at the battery and starter terminal, all contacts cleaned.
3. Fluid levels all good
4. When I jumped the starter at the solenoid contacts, just the starter spins and does not engage flywheel.
Would appreciate some ideas as to where to go from here. |

Sounds to me like the battery is nearly dead. You can read 12 volts and still have no amperage to back it up. Jump it off your running pickup truck and see if she fires. |

Battery is fully charged, load tested good. Contacts and grounds are all cleaned. Other thoughts?

You said you jumped the contacts at the solenoid and the starter spins but not engage. This is very typical of low battery or bad connection at starter.
Did you try jumper cables off a running vehicle? |

We had a similar problem on our 214S, turned out to be a poor connection where the wire to the solenoid plugged on to the solenoid. When you said that the starter spun but did not engage when you shorted it, were you jumping across the two main terminals or from the incoming power to the solenoid. Jumping across the main terminals will cause what you described. Try jumping from the incoming main cable to the small terminal on the solenoid. On a side note, I hope you never blow the hydraulic line going to the rear wheel steering valve, it looks like they started with the valve and built the machine around it. We are 3 days into replacing the hose and have the rear housing hanging on new bolts to get access to the valve. |
