I have been restoring a 1948 8n and the medium gray seems to have a brown tint but the old paint is gray. Is this normal?

That depends on what you mean by "medium gray", "gray" and "brown tint". The correct color for an 8N is medium gray, and a lot of people say that it has a slight brown tint to it. 9Ns were a much darker gray. the "100s" up until '58 were medium gray as well. In '58 the X01s came out with a gray that has a little more of a yellow tan tint to it.

I used the to tp-240 medium gray but the old paint on it
looks like a light gray. I was almost wondering if it was just a
primer gray but I cant post a pic to show the difference.

This looks like correct color for 8N to me.

thanks for the info. It s kind of important to us because my grandad owned this tractor new. He worked at a shop that rebuilt them. He sold it years later and it came back to the family and still has his stamp when he rebuilt it in 3/12/59 and I started working on a 2n that I purchased and I have gone threw it and then they wanted me to bring it back to original colors and paint wasn t my strong point so I have been doing a lot of research on it so that pic really help fill in the blanks.

That shouldn't be normal. If it has a brown tint to it then there must be the color red in the paint. Black and red make brown. Gray should be just black and
white. If you have some compatible green paint you might be able to add a little to the paint you are using and cancel the red in it. It might be easier to
replace the paint. If you doctored the paint, touch up latter would be very difficult.
