There was no such tractor as a six-cylinder Major factory built, they are all modifications mainly using the 590E truck engine, extending the side rails and turning the support round. I made a couple, and my Aussie friends have a number over there. Some later modifications use the later Ford Cargo engine.
There is a Major still around that has a Rolls Royce Merlin 1300 hp connected to a standard Major back end and used for a pulling tractor.

If you're talking about the 1945-52 models, they could be
ordered from Ford with Perkins Diesels. Aftermarket kits
were also sold. The base tractor was sold as the E27N Major

I remember the Fordson County 4 and County 6 vergind made with the 4 equal size driving tires. And I understood the the county 6 was a 4 cylinder Major converted to a 6 cylinder. Neighbor about 15-20 mile away used to have one, don't know if a 4 or 6. Think they pulled a forage harvestor with it but too many years since I saw it to remember. Just would see it setting either in barnyard or field of corn stalks. First 4 wheel drive I ever saw. |
