Hey Stu,

I called him and left a message. Although my rims are 19.5's, he still might be able to send me in the right direction.

Thanks a MILLION!

Very nice!
Did that come with IH axles from factory?

Does it have the divorced transfer case?

Was the hood or grill replaced with a different year one, due to the doubling of FORD?? Would not surprise me if it came that way from Ford. Especially if it was one of the first or last of a model year change.

Hey DoubleO7,

From what I gather from the previous owner, the truck is a "State Surplus Dump Truck" from Springfield MO. The axles are an Eaton Rear low pinion Limited Slip rear axle. The front is a Dana 70 with an automatic locker. They are 4:88 gear ratio. They look factory to me and some other Ford Guru's.

The transfer case is a Divorced INTERNATIONAL 205 gear case, Passenger side drop probably made by New Venture.

As for the grill, take a closer look. It's not a doubled F O R D Emblem but rather F 5 5 0.

Never in my life have I seen anything like it. I've taken it to several car shows and the Ford guys say it's the Unicorn.

I am very happy to own it and use it.

Now this really gets interesting! Your wheels are 19.5s? Please look at them closely to see if you can detect any signs that they were custom built. Welded centers vs riveted, other signs like manual weld vs machine weld, etc.

I have a big library of wheel references, have documented all the 19.5s for which there is a major manufacturer record, and haven t found any DRWs having the 6 x 7.25" pattern. But I know to "never say never". I know by legend that there were some 19.5s built as a special run by one of the manufacturers for UPS/Fed/etc, but the only ones of them I ve found were SRW. Stu

Stu,

The tire size is 8R19.5.

The number on the rear duals says BUDD 72720

Another stamping says 19.5 X 5.25

On the front - BUDD 19.5 x 5.25

Okay. The Budd 72720 was a wheel used by both Dodge (#1665419) and IHC (#159077R91), with NWRA cross reference code X-45054. It has 3.5" of positive offset and was termed a SRW. Generally a DRW will have +/- 5.00" of offset. Have you had a rear dual off to see if there might be small spacers between the duals? If there are no spacers, and you haul the loads you described earlier, is there any sign of sidewall rubbing? If no rubbing, please be alert to the risk of a rock lodging between the duals and digging into a sidewall. Adding spacers might be cheap insurance. Stu

Your right, a unicorn.

What are the first five figures of the serial number?

And what are the emblems on the cab sides?

Stu,

I have had the duals off. No spacers. It seems to have plenty of room between the duals for the tires that are on it.

A normal load that I run on the truck is 4 tons. 5 tons gets to let you know it's back there but handled it great. Only one time have I hauled 6 tons. Let me tell you, that was WAY to much. Dumping is no problem though.

Where in the world am I going to find rims? I haven't heard anything from Mark. But then again, it's Thanksgiving.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

DoubleO7,

Here is the picture of the badging.

As for the VIN, I believe it starts out with X41 I couldn't find anything on it. It seems that the VIN tracker ends with the F-350. The truck has a NP435 4 speed and "Had" a 400 in it. I did a 460 swap on it.

I m just a parts guy relying on what the manufacturers have said, you re the guy living with the wheels on the truck. I m sure Mark won t have a set of 72720s right now, but he s amazing at sniffing them out at his MT yards. So hang on to his number (texting works best) and stay in touch with him. But fair warning, he might go to school on your experience and also search out a set for his F-350 Napco. Happy Thanksgiving to you folks too. Stu

An F41 indicates a 4x4 F450 per wiki which might not be right.

A real dearth of info finding any F550 with that body.

I suspect the a truck outfitter was utilized (axles) or some prior owner customization in it's life (F550 in the grill vs FORD).

But, maybe not.

Ford fleet vehicles can be real oddballs.
