A friend of mine has two 1550s. He was curious as to how many were built. I don t see that on tractotdata.com. Does anyone know?
Here is one of them.

The Jan/Feb 2014 issue of HPOC magazine might tell you. A quick search says it was the feature tractor.

I was told that the 1550 was brought out as a lower cost alternative to the 1650 but didn't sell well because there wasn't enough of a price
difference.

I always liked the 1550/1555 tractors. Could someone summarize the article mentioned. I could buy the argument that there was
little to be saved over a 1650. It has been said the same in terms of an IH 666 versus 766 tractor. But knowing some of the
oldtimers back in the day even if the savings was less than a thousand dollars that still would have been enough for them to opt
for the cheapest option.

They replaced the 770 pretty much, even though there was an overlap of a year-year and a half in production. Handy as a shirt pocket though. If I get time I'll look for that article, but if somebody else gets time to do it first, I'd apptrviate it. It might be a day or two before I get to it. Tested bull sale tomorrow.

Interesting price spread-from tractordata.com 1969 price
1550-$6000 53 PTO hp $113 per PTO HP
1650-$7100 66 $108
1750-$7400 80 $93
1850-$8500 92 $92

Also, like Bill Martinson said in a presentation; a different tractor every thirteen horsepower

Hard to believe that that few 1550 cockshutts. We must have the majority of them here in Ontario Canada as I have never considered them to be
that scarce? 770 cockshutt yes they are few and far between, but honestly there are a pile of not only 1550, but pretty much all 4 digit
cockshutts in this area. Seldom do I see a 4 digit Oliver. Actually bought a 1650 Cockshutt once that someone had rebadged and painted Oliver
colours!
