My 660 is overcharging and cooked my last battery. I have 16 plus volts at the battery terminal on the regulator when running, 14.8-15 at the battery. If I unhook the field wire to the generator it stops charging, so I do not have a short in the generator.

This regulator is bigger than the one in my Farmall 560. There seems to be adjustment screws on the bottom. I wanted to try adjusting before replacing as it seems the new stuff is junk from the get-go. Thank you.

The left hand relay in that VR is the voltage control The middle is the current limiting relay and the right is the cutout relay. The lower the charging voltage the spring tension on the left set of contacts needs to be decreased. Do this by 1/4 turn increments and be certain that you are decreasing the tension. The cover must be in place for the VR to work, as the cover affects the magnetism inside and is not correct with the cover off. Make sure all contacts in there are clean and not burnt. 600 grit paper and electrical contact cleaner can make sure it maintains contact. Jim

Yes the newly made regulators vary from pure junk to short lived at best. Do all you can to save that one. I watch EBay for NOS regulators and keep a few of the common ones.
