I have a Farmall M with a Low gear first. Would it be possible to change out 2nd and third gear for a standard 1st and 2nd. Basically trying to get low first, and normal 1st to take the place of second.
thanks! |

dont know how your going to do that ,... the gears are a certain size and have to be changed out in matching sets. BUT... the farmall has faster gears than the w6 as some put w6 gears in them. what is your gear mph in each gear? is that a creeper gear in 1st your talking about? |

1st is low first not a standard 2 5/8mph. I know it would work hypothetically if the gear sets are able to pass one another without getting bound. I know 1st and 2nd are combined didnt know if they could be cut and welded back together in order to work. more or less making a hybrid out of it. Perhaps just taking reg first and cutting off the normal 2nd gear. the end results would be low fist, reg first, 3rd etc. hope that make some sense.
Reason for doing is that the fist is sometimes too low and second is to high for speed limits around here.

3 1/2 is limit. Currently running around 2mph in low fist. 2nd is pushing 4+ mph and running out power on hard tracks if not wide open. Need something in between. |

If want to win. Get enough motor to pull second. Maybe 3rd. Need a good speedometer and keep speed at 3.5 as long as you can. A stroke crank will be as cheap as getting custom gears cut. My tractor will pull 4000 to 5000 lb. Classes. From 4 mph to 8 mph. In its 12 mph gear. Torque is King. |
