I've spent some time looking for the rod and main bearing torque specs for my 1958 MF 65 gas with a Continental G 176 engine. I have not been able to find them. Being a newbee, I might not know where to look. I should be getting the bearings today. Any help would be appreciated.

The connecting rods are 40-45 ft.-lbs.
The main bearings are 85-95 ft.-lbs.

I HOPE you have a service manual. The rear seal SHOULD be removed before removing the rear main cap, and that means a split and clutch/flywheel removal. There are five
seal carrier bolts, three on the flywheel side and two THROUGH the rear main cap. I would not recommend just rolling in new bearing shells on that engine.

Thank you Tractor expert and Tractor Guru for the responses. My plan indeed was to replace the rod bearings because I thought I might have heard a knock one time, and while I am doing that, I thought I'd go ahead and replace the front and middle mains. I was not considering splitting the tractor. I do not have a service manual. I just checked, and the good news is that the rod bearings and the crankshaft journals all look good enough to go. Nothing I can catch a fingernail on. It looked like the original bearings. I did an oil test earlier, and the lead was 200 ppm. I thought maybe I'd get lucky, but now I am concerned about excessive end play. .032 inches. I didn't think to check that earlier. What is the crankshaft end play supposed to be?

Crank shaft end-play is ,004-.008 inch.

So, I guess I will order a shop manual. I am wondering how I will split the tractor with floor jacks. I hope that if I get it apart I can find the right parts. I'll try to review as many of these posts here as I can. It had a new clutch recently. It doesn't have a whole lot of time since it had a valve job back it the 80's. The spark plugs have oily deposits on them. I only use it for mowing 4 acres and for the Souder loader, which I couldn't do without. We'll see what happens. Should be fun. My Father bought this tractor new in 1958. The picture is of me in the 60's.

I'd recommend getting a service manual from AGCO/Massey if you can. I have one and also a manual from I.T. The I.T. manual I have has incorrect information on the valve train assembly. They tell you to orient the rocker shaft in a way that blocks oil flow to the rocker arms.
The oem Massey manual has more information and is easier to understand.

OEM manual ordered. Thanks for the help. Now I'm going to try to figure out how to do this.
