Everything on the loader works and even the hydraulic remotes work but the dozer will not move. Any ideas of where to start. I checked filter in front of the radiator and the lower filter screen in the belly. U can hear the motor pull down a little when u shift but goes right back to normal about a second later. Need help!!! |

Hydraulics and transmission are different systems, they don't share oil or pumps.
Straight 450, 450B, 450C, etc.?
A machine you have had and been running or new to you? |

How recently before you got it was it moving?
Is the serial number tag for the crawler on it? If so what is the complete info on it. It will either be on the right side of the panel below the seat or on the front of the battery box panel. If the tag is missing, you will find two 1/8'' holes about 3'' apart where the tag was. The tag on the loader won't help
Start by checking that the linkage is moving things all the way to the transmission. How much free play in the clutch pedal? |

After you changed the filter and cleaned the sump screen, did you refill it to the full mark on the transmission dipstick and re-check after running it a few minutes? What did you use for fluid? |

It would have help if the tag had been cleaned a bit. I believe I got the info on it figured out and you have a 1968 straight 450 crawler loader with a diesel engine and a the HLR (High-Low-Reverse) transmission.
History can sometimes help, that is why people ask questions and your answers to those questions can provide clues, since we are not there looking at it or witnessing what you have done.
You said it was moving before you got it. Did you operate it at that time to know how it was shifting? When did you get it? How recently before you got it was it moving? Has it been setting since you got it, or did it just quit while you were using it? Are you working on it right where you got it? (Trying to establish some history and a timeline here)
After you changed the filter and cleaned the sump screen, did you refill it to the full mark on the transmission dipstick and re-check after running it a few minutes? What did you use for fluid?
How much free play in the clutch pedal?
Look at the transmission linkage and see that it moves all the way to the transmission. Are you sure the gear transmission is fully engaged in a gear? Sometimes they get out of line with the quadrant notches due to linkage wear.
Do you have the Operator's Manual (OMT23810) and the Service Manual (SM2064)? You can download and save a free copy of the operator's manual at
https://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/
On that homepage you will see three search boxes near the top. In the center box (''Search Term'') type OMT23810, then click the search icon to the right of that box. That should bring up the 450 Loader Operator's Manual for you. Click on the yellow ''Download'' button and you can save that pdf to your device and print it from your device if you want a hard copy. (You can view it online without downloading if you click the green ''View Online'' button.)
The Parts Catalog for the crawler loader is PC922 and the Loader attachment is PC927. You can use those parts catalogs online at

The only history that I have on the machine is that it
was running just fine and just stop moving. We loaded
on a semi trailer and brought it here before we bought
it. Someone has changed the motor in it at one time. It
has a motor out of a 455 thats the only history I have
on it. |

It may just be me but when I read what you have written it sounds like you changed the filter in front of the radiator and the belly screen and the tried it and it wouldn't move. Now you are refilling the oil. I hope that is not what happened. If that is the way it happened, no wonder it wouldn't move.
From your description, of getting it home, I can't say for certain if you were able to drive it on the semi to get it home and it died after you had it home and running, or it was dead before you bought it and you pushed it on. It reads like it was dead when you bought it.
Not trying to give you a hard time but your descriptions and time frames have to be in order, complete and correct to help you the most.
Are you using John Deere Hy Gard fluid or one of the premium UTHFs that meet the John Deere J20C spec to refill the transmission? |

Dead when I got it
Pushed onto semi trailer
Hauled home
Checked fluid level and level was fine
Changed filter in front of radiator
Tried it out still not moveing
Drain transmission
Cleaned screen but had very little in it
Refilling with new hydraulic fluid not hyguard but but
high quality. Dont realy think its the problem but did
a change anyway
Havent had time since to work on it
Also have checked linkage to clutch pedal all looked
fine. |
