I am working on my H, it's been a couple of years since it the gas tank was removed, maybe a silly question, but why does it have a full with piece of rubber or whatever suppose to be between the front support,[behind the engine] to absorb vibration or keep the dirt and pebbles out of there? I got new round rubber supports, The rubber is to bad to put back under there! |

Probably both support and closure. I would put a strip of closed cell self sticking foam in the gap. Jim

Well with new rubber washers, they are 1/4in thick, that pad between the two bolts, in front of the tank was thinner, lets say3/16 so the tank would not be sitting on the metal !!!! |

If the pads are not of the correct thickness, there will be a poor fit between the tank and hood. |

Just cut a piece of old inner tube and fold up a couple times to fill the crack between the mounting pads. Just fold to fit thickness needed. To loose and it will work out and to thick will bind on the tank or possibly break the ear when tightening the bolts to the tank. |
