I have a 1968 680B that I did the top end on. Case had 2 different torque specs for this year based on the size of the head bolts. Thanks to this forum I figured out that I had over torqued the heads. I have copper head gaskets and am wondering are they one shot deals. Since I over torqued the heads do I need to pull them and replace the gaskets or can I just loosen them and torque them correctly. Thanks |

I would replace them once they have been crushed they will never seat correctly.

That is what my gut was saying, but was hoping it was wrong. Thanks for the quick response. |

you aren't out anything for trying to retorque them, if the fire ring is crushed and won't seal go back to plan one and re- gasket it |

The more I think about this, since the 1st spec was 250 ft pounds and the correct one was 150 ft pounds the fire rings are certainly crushed!! I snapped a couple bolts in the process. New heads gaskets are on order. |

If you over torqued the bolts that much you better order a new set of bolts as well, you have streached the old ones to much. |

I agree that all the bolts should be replaced if you went that far over and snapped some of them. And the gasket, of course. |
