|

My dad is getting closer to making his AC WD45 run once more. For now, he'll use a spare gas carb to make it run on gas, but the tractor came with the LPG tank out front, the filter underneath, the vaporizer/pressure regulating device, and a Ensign 1" MG1 carb. In some ways, we'd like to make the system usable, but don't know where to get rebuild parts. Our first concern is the carb, which has two inlets, and a third line. It don't even begin to look like the one in our I&T book (a Ensign KG1 or KGn1), and our AC service manual don't show the LPG carb.
So, our questions are
1) where can we get the parts to rebuild the carb etc. we have (I'll have to look at the other two parts again for models).
2) Is the MG1 a proper ensign carb for the 45
3) Any one got diagrams for the MG1? |

ENSIGN is LONG DEAD. The only thing I know is you can use a Century Model M-6 Vaporizer to replace the Ensign Vaporizer. I know nothing of carb parts. You may have to buy a complete new system to stay with LP Fuel. I hate to say this as I like LP for fuel. I have a Gleaner C-II with a LP fueled G-262 Power Unit.

Thanks. However, I'll ask any one else out there who also has the WD-45 on LPG and made it run what route did you take? Some where I got the impression that the 45 on LPG wasn't exactly common-- awfully low production. Also, I think my carb is the duel fuel-- LPG and gasoline, which I am not aware of too many others. Also, guys with 45's on LPG, what do you think are the odds that the thing might be ok as is? |

Well for me propane is the way to go. I'd love to have a WD,WD 45, or a WC on LP. I have 6 lp tractor's now. There is parts for the Ensign's just very pricey. I did my moline 3 years ago the regulator cost me almost 300 to rebuild. Imco make new one's that work better anyway. Do you have some pics I'll keep an eye out for the parts. |

Well, after looking at all the parts once more, I have an Ensign filter, possibly 5259, but my Ensign W has already been replaced with a Century model H (the way everyone talks so far, I'm starting to fell that may be a good thing if we're going to actually burn LPG on this tractor) And as I knew, I have the ensign MG1.
In one picture of the MG1, I added the letters A, B, and C beside three fittings on the crab. Dad things A must be for some gauge. He thinks B is for Gasoline, and C for the LPG. On that note, how did one shut off the gas to use LPG and reverse? The best diagram of the system I have comes from the I&T Shop manual, and it's not the best.

A local Allis collector I know, I think, has a Dual Fuel WD-45. I will have to check the next time i Talk to him. He also has a BIG 6 cylinder power unit, same engine as the M Crawler, that has dual fuel Ensign carbs on it. I got it running on LP for him.

I think your carb is a vapor(LP) only carb.

I have a duel fuel carb gas & propane for a H IH I haven't installed it yet as it does not have vaporizor. from looking at yours and working on propane powered equipment I think the duel fuel set up used vapor tanks which aren't easy to find instead of liquid tanks. Both tanks have the same lpg it is just the way the propane comes out of the tank.On vapor regulartor vaporizer there is no water hoses going to it.These were on some water cooled and by nessity on all air cooled engines, Hope this helps and doesn't confuse. |
