I have a 1941 Case S series that needs the crank ground and the main and rod bearings replaced. Does anybody know where to get the bearings? |

I'm gonna go out on a limb on this one but will take no offense at being corrected if I'm wrong. I would call DonL and talk to him. I get rebuilt DC Main bearings from him and I would think that SC bearings would also be able to be rebabbited. The catch is that DC bearings must be linebored in place requiring the block to be taken to a engine shop who has the portable line bore tool. As previously stated I could be wrong. mEl |

Here's a little info I gathered about a year ago when we were restoring an SC. It may be out of date, but hopefully it will help a little.

CN, I certainly am aware of the style bearing used in the S series and just threw the possibility in there. The process to rebabbit a bearing would seem to be applicable to a shell type bearing, the D series just having a thicker shell to work with. The big issue is what I alluded to before, the bearing would come back in a semifinished state and require being line bored in place. This is not an unusual process and was done regularly in years past on some engines. I do not know if DonL offers a rebuilding of the S shells but would be interested in his comments. As parts for our hobby become more rare we are going to have to develope procedures to reclaim old parts and return them to service. Hope all is going well and enjoy your pictures. mEl |

Don L can help you with the mains and the rod bearings. Send him your old bearings and the exact diameter of your crankshaft. In a couple of weeks, Don L will send your bearings back with new bearing material on them, ready to use with no lineboring needed. This costs about $165.00 plus shipping. Don L usually has NOS rod bearings too. They are around $25.00 each. I just put one together with these parts last May. |
