What are the best paint mix codes I need for desert sunset and Flambeau Red
Also what kind of primer should I use with the paint
I put a new water pump and fixed my radiator in my 1964 730 Comfort King and figured now is the time to give her a new paint job.
Thanks Jeff |

I use Napa for both colors. Don't have the codes handy but can get them when I go out to the shop. I use their sealer before paint. |

There is many different types of paint you can paint your tractor but if you wish for it to last a long time spend the money and use a high quality urethane enamel with an added hardener. Some alkyd enamels, the color will be gone within two years. Automotive finishes will work good however they are designed for a car which is expected to be washed and waxed occasionally. Most people don"t drive their cars through high weeds and bushes either. The paint is just not designed for that kind of abuse a tractor gets. The paint code for Desert Sunset is:
Case/IH B13004,Dupont 75194D, Van Sickle CML-3007, Tisco TP 580, Sherwin Williams 71599. The paint code for Flambeau Red is Case/IH B13007, Dupont 016DH, Van Sickel Stock #458, Tisco TP 140, Sherwin Williams 318781. I attempted to get Desert Sunset paint from Case and my local store only gets paint once a year because of the hasmat fees. I managed to get a paint sample chip from them and the sample color is a different color than any case tractor I"ve ever seen. The image above scanned into the computer pretty accurate. I"ve used many different primers and I don"t see much difference in any of them, however if your going to paint with lacquer I would use a lacquer primer. The solvents in lacquer paint can lift an oil based primer. What is most important is the preparation of the surface you"re going to paint. Make sure you get any oil off the tractor. Throughly clean it with an engine degreaser to the point of over kill. Any trace of oil will prevent the new paint from bonding.
