I've got a 850 that steers harder one direction than it does the other. It was doing this same thing about 10 years ago and a man replaced a couple of bearings in the steering column and it cured the problem until now. He mentioned that the upper does'nt get the proper amount of lube and wears quicker. How hard is it to replace this upper bearing? under the steering wheel I see a spring, is the bearing uder that and if so how hard to gat to. Thanks Steve

Not bad.. open your I&T fo-20 manual.. it's explained in there.

And the top bearing is at the base of the steering tube under that cover that bolts to to top of the steering box.

If you can turn a wrench enough to unbolt some sheet metal and pop the steering wheel off and pull the box cover you can drop in a new bearing.

Check the race in the box top too..

if the bearing came apart, you will need to get the old rollers out either by magnetic probe, or by disassembly.. or they will cause bad interference problems = to the price of a new steering box..

The bearing you are after is part # 3571. You will need to take part # 3509 off to get to it.
