I am going to replace the right front drag link on my 49 8n. Just wondering what people do to insure that you get the new one back to the same location. Can you measure off a reference point on the tube and is it critical to get the exact position the old one was in. I'm assuming this would affect the alignment.

Some Ford tractors have a factory reference mark on the steering arms, arms that attach to the spindle, and the front axle. This mark is made with a chisel. If your tractor does not have these you can easily make your own. If there is slack in the drag link ends you may want to slightly move the steering wheel find a “center point” before making your marks. One of the service manuals I have gives this information.
