1964 830 diesel (831c).
grandpa told me reason it was parked was because "GD S.O.B LEAKED" HIS WORDS NOT MINElol.
my dad said that fluid from front compartment would leak into the back. the when i worked up the courage to ask grandpa to elaborate i got the above quoted rsponse again. about 1 month ago he calls from fla to elaborate and says there are 2 seals in there need to be replaced. my dad told me once that over thecourse of a day in the hay field,he would have to "take from one and put in the other" refering to the fluid. dad said it did that for 2 days and then they parked it.

so ive researched COM in the forum here and seems there are 2 seals that keep the 2 compartments separate?
what are the likely culprits of this condition?

last question.... so whe i got it here (towed it with one of those green things) i checked evereything out fluids n such,the rear dipstick im guessing is hydrolic? anyways it was milky.now 4 months later checked it again and it looks like good clean fluid except the very tip of the stick had a wee bit of milky stuff. do you think it settled to the bottom?
do you or you know anyone that has had one of these apart that took pics so i can get a real time visual vs paperback explosion. i gguess what i need is A GOOD LOOK AT THE STEAK WHILE ITS STILL ATYACHED .

Just split the tractor and pull the converter out with the fixture that is shown in the service manual. You will find the 2 seals back in there. Not rocket science. If you have been elbow deep in anything you will not have any trouble with it. The transmission cover does NOT need to be pulled to pull the converter. I would not do my first one without a Case service manual. I had one that pumped hydraulic into the COM that I did last year. I have another that pumps engine oil into the converter, and converter oil into the hydraulic that needs to be done. Don't loose any sleep over it. Not a bad job. DK

thats pretty much what i needed to hear,ty. where do i find one of these "fixtures" easy to build? and are these seals still AVA?

Prints with plans to build the fixture are in the service manual. Split the tractor and build the fixture on the converter before you pull it. Do not pull the fuel tank like the manual stated. Simply make a handle that extends forward to balance the converter by hand. I made my fixture to fit the 400 through 630 also and use those smaller lining pins as handles extending forward. Seals are available.

I'm putting my 800 back together now. I bought it a year ago and found out why it was parked- it transferred almost 5 gallons of oil during a 6 hr plow day last fall. Whoever had it apart last rolled the front seal in the clutch drum when they put it together. Mine leaked externally too, so I split the center section and put a new gasket in while I had it apart.

While the converter is out, take it apart and take a few extra steps to prevent problems later. Listen to John and pull the lockup clutch apart. Look what I found...

I also took the multi disc clutch apart and cleaned the piston. My rings were good but it was DIRTY. My tractor had a rough life and didn't have clean oil.

I put new bearings on the range/clutch drum shaft while it was apart. The rear bearing was a real treat to find and I ended up getting one that matched specs but had to have snap ring grooves cut.

AWSOME THANK YOU GUYS I REALLY APRECIATE ALL THE HELP AND TIPS. Im def going to check EVERYTHING while im in there,no sense in having to go back in after all that.
