Could not find anything in the archives, so, I was wondering if anyone knows what the end play would be on an 8N starter? I have a parts book but have not taken it apart to see if anything is missing/worn out. While I have yet to measure the distance the shaft moves back and forth in the starter housing, it has what I think to be excessive movement which may contribute to the bendix (new) hanging on to the ring gear which is in very good condition. Bendix was unintentally extended using Dell's hairy arm pit method. Wire brush wheel didn't work at all. Thanks, Tom/Idaho

Commutater bars can touch the end plate if thrust washer is missing.Electric motors can fail to start if end play is excessive.Starter repair kits I use have washers in them.
