I have a 1948 MM UM-5 sickle mower. Is it possible to get new sickle blades, guides & guards that will fit it? Does AGCO or someone else have replacements that will work? Thank you.

Your best bet might be a farm store. They usually have enough of a variety for all popular makes so that you can pick something that will work.

Beats running from one dealer to another.

Can't say for sure, but you might try Sickle Service in Grand Island, NE.

I was very happy with their service. They won't have "MM" brand components, but will likely have inter-changeable items.

Local IH dealer couldn't touch them for price.

I'm just guessing, but thge guards are probably the same as some other manufacturer's. Our NI 290 haybine uses JD guards. Different numbers for them, but the only difference I see is the type of bolt in 1 style of JD guard(they have 2 that work on ours) and the color.

For the sickle sections, just take one off and measure the distance center to center of the holes and you'll find whatever you need. There are a lot of generic parts that will fit almost any make/model as well.

If you need a new sickle bar and can't find one that will work, go to you're local machine shop or weld shop and have them make you a new one off the pattern from your old one.
