I want to have a hand crank for my 48 8N, so I can crank if/when I get stuck out in the field with a dead battery (yep, has happened twice).

I bought a Model A hand crank, but it is too short to reach through the bumper I've got on the 8N. Anybody know of a source for a long handle that'll work on an 8N with a bumper?

thanks,
Tom A (and Molly, the 48 8N)

What bumper do you have?

This is mine I just looked and the bar with the ball mount is right in front of mine. Dont look like I could crank it if I wanted too... Guess you could cut it and weld a piece of pipe in there to lengthen it...

Need to get around to painting that bumper one day..

Cut it into and weld in what ever you need to make it the length you want. Don't have to be perfectly straight as you won't reach any high speeds on a hand crank.

We made a bumper for our 9n modeled after the factory bumper on uncles 8n. I'm not sure if yours has that flange welded in the middle of the flat bar that buckles to the axles. We simply cut a hole in that piece of iron. We then cut the crank and extended it so it would be long enough to reach, we also welded a piece of pipe on one side and notched it so we could store the crank, if you look at the 9n pics on this page you can see it sorta, we was at a show and i had some stuff on the bumper

Try the 'auto recyclers' and look for the jack handle from a B2200 Mazda, the one from my '88 fit perfectly and is fairly long.
