I think a sursingle (sp) would work. You know the metal end from the strap that goes around the cow when using a Surge milking machine. |

They certainly do, as that's exactly what we used at home. For those unaware, the link shows what a surcingle is--the metal part called the "triangle" is what we used--the strap had broken so we had it lying around. Bent a bigger hook in the end and used it for years. If memory serves, we bent it so it would lie flat when the triangle was pushed and pulled under the log--I think ACG is going to find his hook digs in and grabs on every root, rock, and other obstacle he encounters, but it still should beat doing it by hand.

I forgot about them. Yes very similar. They didn't have the T handle though, just a Z shaped end to lock into the eye of the strap. We had the Delavel sp. milkers which sat in the manger under the cows.

Tim, I will tell you how it works next summer. I debated on which side off the bow to put the finger on. Figured when hooked, the choker would keep it from digging into the dirt.
Time will tell.

Any commercially-made one I've seen (attached link is just the first one I found, but they're all pretty much identical) has the hook bent flat, not at a 90-degree angle, but by all means give it a shot--it's not that big a job to redo if it doesn't work.
