Talked to old dealer on the Coleman FWA boots. Yes they did come with them. Far as dependability there was none. Don't waste money on them. Old ones were an issue. New ones will be worse. The boots hold moisture mud etc, then they split and hold more mud snow. Some here must remember issues on first fwd cars. May be ok for show but a bear to change and will deteriote especially when there is no rubber in them. Used one without boots for 15 or more years and no trouble. Steering cylinders on all MM's were Ross and they all leaked. Can be kitted but will all leak. |

Thanks for the tip. Will save me a few hundred on the front end rebuild. |

I also need to find a shop to rebuild the Ross steering cylinder. I have pressure to it but no power steering. |

Cylinder off GV1,705 or any all the same. Only supply to cylinder is flow divider on back
of pump. Once pressure comes to cylinder maybe bypassing in pump. Cylinders gave little
trouble except leakage. |

I strongly disagree. You do need the rubber boots unless you are planning to use this tractor only for none dust/dirt uses. Back in the day, we would have to replace the big bearings if the rubber boots let dirt in. If the bearing goes bad then you will be looking for a new retaining plate and possible new hub. It?s true the boots are very susceptible to tearing. So you can?t just drive it into corn or sunflower stubble. We used a piece of old inner tube as a protective piece in front of the rubber boot. Hose clamlped it to the axle. Worked well.
FYI
The boots need to have a thin film of grease inside the boot to help it slip over the axle. |

Harrowed hunderds of acres of stubble. Never had an issue. Grease couple times a season. Front end was never apart. Have seen many a Coleman fwa as there was a pile around here. None ever had any boots. Maybe Masseys never had them or anything that came north. Talked to a friend and between the two f us have seen around 50 fwa none had boots. |

I know I have bad bearings on one side because you can hear it rolling the front wheel on a floor jack. When I get into the front end I guess I will decide if I’m going to run them. I have found that the bearings and races are common to a lot of equipment. |
