What's the technique for removal of the crank pulley on the front of the z-129 engine? What I'm looking at is not what the IT manual shows. The "crankshaft starting jaw", apparently a bolt that will catch a hand crank for manual starting, is buried within the pulley - maybe it's missing a washer or something? I can't get a socket/wrench on the flats, I could get a pipe wrench on the exposed part, but am wondering if I am missing something?
the other thing I am wondering about is the coolant pump housing - I've removed two nuts that apparently attach it to the block, is that it? It seems stuck real tight yet and I don't want to break anything -
thanks, David |

just a suspicion, but I'm betting that the internal toothed lock washer is not original equipment - and it certainly wasn't tight against anything when it was in position -
I am in the market for the appropriate washer for this application if any of you have such an item available -

There is suppose to be a starting jaw washer behind the crankshaft starting jaw. The Ferguson part # you are missing is 1 750 149 M1 |

The reason the water pump is tight is because there were suppose to be 3 nuts holding it on. Remove one more nut and you should be in better shape. |

Thanks Richard - I will add this to what is obviously going to be a long list of incidentals -
I do enjoy these projects, but budgeted neither time nor money to do this one now -
I got the pump housing off cleanly - I had removed the pulley and pump (which is the third nut), but the housing was held tightly around the stud just from debris and corrosion - a bit of work, but it finally loosened up

You pulley has the four holes to accept a coupling to perhaps drive a hydraulic pump. That would have had a bolt in it and not the crank bolt
that you have. |

Did you get it out? How did you do it? Was that a spacer plate that popped off?
I would have tried a chisel, air chisel, to back it out.
Or I would have welded a bar to the ratchet teeth. Could grind them
back to normal afterwards. |

Yes - I used a pipe wrench to grab the the jawed bolt - it came out without much struggle - had to use a puller to get the pulley off -
I'm going to post some more progress pictures on the other thread shortly that chronicles the 'progress'... |

those four holes are untapped and don't go all the way thru the pulley - they are plugged with rubber plugs - I'd guess you are right, they are for a coupling for a pump, maybe something held in place by the crank bolt, dunno - |

5/8 inch-18 UNF x 1-1/4 inches, this is the bolt you need and a flat washer to properly put the pulley on correctly |
