Here's an easy no test tools need way of testing the point distributor etc. Take the ignition side wire off the coil. With the points closed turn on the ignition and touch that wire back to the coil and pull it off a couple of times. You should get a spark when you do. Next open the points and do the same thing but this time you should not get a spark. This will tell you if the points are working as they should and also tell you if you have a short in the distributor. If this test shows good then you may have bad cap or rotor or plug wires or even plugs

to make sure were on the same page , take the wire of the + side of the coil. right? the wire from the - side of the coil goes to the dist.

From what you say yes the + side but either way this test can be done on any tractor and the side you want to remove is ALWAYS the side that DOES NOT go to the distributor. Or you can do it like I do most of the time I just hook a wire to the non ground side of the battery and then touch it to the non distributor side of the coil and watch for that spark. By the way if it would help feel free to send me an e-mail and I can then give you my phone number so I can talk you through the trouble shooting

not enough info. all depends if you have + or - ground tractor..with pos. ground the dist. wire goes to + on coil. with negative ground dist wire goes to - on coil.

if you have one plug firing., then points and coil should be ok. sounds like wire or distributor cap. remove distributor cap and clean the towers and inside the cap.

If one plug fires fine but no others, I suspect a dist cap or rotor problem unless ALL the other plugs or plug wires are bad??

To find the cause of no fire with simple equipment (maybe a test light or only your eyes) and without guessing or throwing parts at it try my Troubleshooting Procedure linked below

Are the plugs fouled that are not firing? Check them with a digital ohmmeter, anything less than infinity ohms is bad. You probably know this already, but don't hold the metal ends of the probes in your fingers while doing the test or you will be measuring your fingers instead of the plug Smile
