My Dad say's this is the first year that he has found this in the pasture.
Can anyone tell us what it is, and is it any good for graze?
Our cattle don't seem to be interested in it.

The weed in this picture, is only about 8 to 10 inches tall, but being as Buck was so close to it, when he took the picture, it appears taller, and larger around. It is growing in a heavily grazed pasture, and is in large patches, all over 10 acres. We are posting this in hopes of knowing what it is, so we can try to find a herbicide, to apply, that wont kill the perennial rye grass, orchard grass, and ladino clover, that forms the bulk of our pasture cover. Is there a spray that will be safe to use, that will leave the good stuff?

Arlen, I will have to say no, on the tobacco looking leaf. Tho I have never seen a tobacco leaf, outside of my cigars. one leaf shows up in a picture, but not a good shot of it! the leaves are narrow and spear point shaped, and as you can see ,the weeds are seeding out already, and are making the weed patches appear rusty red, will a broad leaf spray, kill my clover? I think the two grasses should be safe from 2-4-D, or some thing for broad leaf.

From what I can see, it looks like broadleaf dock. Any broadleaf killer should kill it.

Be careful with your herbicide selection. A broadleaf weed killer for the dock will also kill your Ladino Clover.

Yeah Wes! I was afraid of that! I don't know how many years it will take to kill the dock, being as it is going to seed already. I may have to sacrifice the clovers, to kill it. I have been told that adding fescue, will crowd the dock out, but I also have been told, that some fescues are toxic . It looks like I am between a rock, and a hard place!

I could be wrong but that?s what your picture sort of looks like, if that?s what it is it normally grows knee high or tad bit taller around here, google Heart Wing Sorrel and read up on it.....
