The cylinder for the hydraulic on the NH 477 isn't a NH part and it keeps spraying fluid out of the side of it when it's all the way up, and then starts leaking rapidly, so I feel it needs to be replaced.

Does anyone recommend a certain cylinder for replacement?

Those are the common off the shelve cylinder you find at most any farm and home store. Just measure how long yours is closed and then take that info with you to a store and buy one. BTDT on my NH460

Its just a standard 8 inch stroke cylinder.3 inch bore will work fine. Your old one is repairable. I repair hyd cyl almost everyday at my day job.

What is the learning curve to repairing them? And what exactly is that little hole in the side that spurts out fluid when it's lifted all the way up? Prior to last year, it'd spurt a little bit out and there was a little cotter pin in the hole. I don't know if that's something someone put in there before I took over or what but at the end of the summer last year it started spraying a ton of fluid out and slowly leaking out. There's nothing in the manual about it

That is a single acting cylinder(one hose) and the hole is a vent to allow air to be displaced as hydraulic fluid flows into the other side of cylinder. If your cylinder allows fluid to leak by the piston seals, the hydraulic fluid will come out of the vent hole. The worse the leak gets, the more fluid leaks by. It should be easily rebuilt and the parts can come from a hydraulic shop instead of New Holland. You can also have the hyd. shop do the whole thing. Around here they get around $80/hr. labor. Just had one done off of a disc mower, was about $180.

Should be a standard 3" diameter by 8" stroke cylinder but a higher pressure hydrolic system tractor a 2.5" diameter would work and give you faster lifting.

Most cylinders are pretty easy to reseal but some can be a
little harder to do for the price of the kit you can probably buy
a new cylinder ready to go
