mounting boss is too long on replacement pump

Has anyone had this problem? Did you modify the boss on the pump or modify the bracket?
It looks like the easiest way is to grind 1 inch off the mounting boss. anyone done this?

In order to get an answer you have to tell what tractor you are asking about. Three or four cylinder?

Its a 1964 2000 4 cyl

I have solved the problem, I paid the extra $300 to buy the correct pump.tanks for your interest/
