It depends on your definition of underbrush. I use a flail mower to cut paths on my property. It does great on tall grass and weeds and not so good on bushes and saplings.

its a clearing in the woods on our property. hidden rocks and stumps plus tall grass.

With stumps, and rocks I'd use a flail mower, you may have to go over the area more than once with the flail. Stumps, and rocks can be hard on a rotary mower.

You could probably buy a used flail, and rotary mower for what a DR mower costs unless you have real tight areas to mow. I get it cut down as close as possible then remove any rocks, or stumps to make life easier on your tires.
