I have come across a i think is a 1961 super major with a backhoe. the engine number is hard to read and is clear to have only4
numbers8324 and the 8 is mis stamped like a double strike and so the 4. like one might do if they struck it twice to try and make it
more bold.it is a 4 cylinder diesel with 16.9 x30 rear tires and i haven't been seeing those on a major. is this a special? does
anyone recognize this data.really hey unit. monster loader as well

Could be a replacement engine block and a poor stamping. We had to stamp the original number on new blocks in service. If you can find a casting number, should be number on every casting, you can get an idea of the date. An easy one to find is on the gearbox housing near the selector plate but others are on the front axle, if original, on the rear axle trumpet housings and on the rear axle housing itself. These are cast letters and numbers not stamped. They will look some thing like A13B or 2A13. Post any you find for decoding.

Number on it.

B15X is February 15th 1955 so if this is correct you are not looking at a Super Major but a Fordson Major Diesel.

Where are the gauges? Are the brakes close to the rear axle housing with ridged tops or are they between the wings and the wheels?

Brian.

Can confirm that your tractor is a 1955 Fordson Major Diesel rated at 38hp. The tractor serial number will be stamped on the flange behind the starter motor. The engine is an early version with the vertical injection pump not the inclined one of the Mk.2 engine.

Both those pipes are governor control pipes from the intake manifold. As you say they are vacuum pipes and I would not be happy with the fact that they have rubber joiners.

You can see by the bonnet badge that she is a Major Diesel and the style of badge confirms (again) 1955.

That is one heck of a strong loader, any ideas on what make?

on the loader i am stumped. it is like the old round bar cage type allies charmer and ford 2n tractors here in no cal. 40s and 50s age. but defiantly modified and strengthened with flat bars welded to frame to be a push bar with loader in raised position.thank you for model conformation. It looks to have been worked very hard. the backhoe is monster heavy. i have no idea if they, front or back attachments are stock Ford.
